چکیده

A finite element model for the diastolic anine left vcntricle based on large deformation theory has been developed. The myecardial stress-strain relation determined by the diastoric pressure-yolume relation was used in this study, The ventricle was assumed as a homogeneous, isotropic, thick-walled solid of revolution with variable thickness. The predicted shapes based on the model were in close agreement with the shapes recorded by two-dimensional echocardiegraphy. The stress calculated at thc subendocardium was considerably larger as compared to that at the subepicardium. For example, at an intraventricular pressure of 10 cmH20, the stress at the subcndocadium was 8e gfcm2 and about four times larger than that at the subepicardium.

Finite-element model for the mechanical behavior of the left ventricle. Prediction of deformation in the potassium-arrested rat heart.

A finite-element model is used to analyze the mechanical behavior of the left ventricle. The ventricle is treated as a heterogeneous, linearly elastic, thickwalled solid of revolution. The inner third of the ventricular wall is assumed to be transversely isotropic with a longitudinal Young's modulus, transverse modulus, and shear modulus of 60 g/cm, 30 g/cm, and 15.5 g/cm, respectively. In the ...

Analysis of diastolic pressure-volume relation of the canine left ventricle: half-inflation pressure as an index of left ventricular compliance.

A sensitive index was proposed for the determination of left ventricular compliance. In the isolated potassium-arrested canine left ventricle, the pressure-volume (P-V) relationship was expressed as deltaV=a-be-cP throughout the range of filling pressure from 0 to 40 cmH2O, where deltaV and P were the actual volume change and intraventricular pressure, and a, b and c were constants. Then, half-...

Effect of Laminar Orthotropic Myofiber Architecture on Regional Stress and Strain in the Canine Left Ventricle

Recent morphological studies have demonstrated a laminar (sheet) organization of ventricular myofibers. Multiaxial measurements of orthotropic myocardial constitutive properties have not been reported, but regional distributions of three-dimensional diastolic and systolic strains relative to fiber and sheet axes have recently been measured in the dog heart by Takayama et al. [30]. A three-dimen...
